NBE-Drum and Tote Filling System

Application Overview: This customer required a semi-automatic filling station, complete with controls, that will accommodate filling a wide variety of containers, including 55-gallon drums and 275-gallon IBC totes. Operators will manually load and unload the palletized drums and totes including handling of the bung. A manual pneumatic bung sealing tool is included post-filling. When accompanied with the appropriate pump, and configured for the proper fluid properties, the filling station can fill a 55-gallon drum in ~45 seconds. The filler is equipped with state-of-the-art bung location assistance to increase productivity while making the operator’s job easier. This system includes a total of 11 chain-driven live roller conveyors, (6) pre-filling and (5) post-filling. A profile cut V ball valve is utilized to control the flow of liquid into the filling lance, a closing tip on the end of the filling lance mitigates the dripping of the product. The fluid added to the totes and drums is measured by load cells built into the integrated conveyor section of the filler. NBE-Bag Opening System-Carbon Black

This customer had been opening 50 lb. bags of carbon black manually and wanted an automated system for improving the health and safety of their team, along with adding efficiency. This started with an engineering PO after an NBE teammate made a visit to their plant in snowy conditions right beforeChristmas. There were a lot of changes in the layout and scope, but we ultimately settled on this final configuration : The operator will load bags onto an incline feed conveyor, which runs through a cutting head with a 30” diameter blade. The cut bags enter the rotary separating drum that will screen out carbon black from the bags. The carbon black falls through the screen openings in the drum and transitions through a hopper with a slide gate and into customer supplied totes. The empty bags automatically discharge out the end of the drum and drop into a screw-type bag compactor

NBE-Bulk Filling System-Potato Slices

The customer approached NBE, aware of our industry reputation for problem-solving and efficient solutions, to enhance their packaging operation. Due to the diverse types of materials they handle, their packaging often ends up uneven and inconsistent. Some materials would accumulate with a high angle of repose, leading operators to use a forklift to “bounce” the totes to level them out, causing spills. This impacted both plant cleanliness and packaging accuracy. NBE was engaged to develop a solution that enables precise tote filling by weight while densifying the contents for consistent, shipment-ready packages. Currently, the customer operates over 12 units, including stand-alone systems, units with diverter gates, and infeed/outfeed conveyor configurations, with additional units under consideration. These are two systems, each with two filling stations and a shared control panel.
